Wyndham Clark Wins Shortened AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

With Monterey County advising “Shelter in Place” for tomorrow due to inclement weather forecasts, the PGA Tour declared that the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am is finished and thus shortened to 54 holes, leaving leader Wyndham Clark the winner. They tried to play the tournament today, but winds were gusting to 60 mph causing an initial postponement of play and then cancelation of the final round.

This AT&T tournament was the Tour’s second signature event of the new year. It’s a new tournament concept that is the centerpiece of the PGA Tour’s changes this year. These special events have a limited field of eighty pros, no 36-hole cut, and each total purse is $20 million. Eight signature tournaments are planned this year.

Wyndham Clark said in acceptance of his win that he is so excited about it because the beautiful Monterey Peninsula and picturesque, seaside Pebble Beach Golf Links is his and his caddie’s “favorite place in the world.” And what a remarkable feat for Wyndham to shoot the course record 60 on his last round to win it. He said of it when he finished the round, “the hole seemed like a bucket today” in making so many putts.

PGA Tour officials considered playing the fourth and final round tomorrow. But the inclement weather forecasts caused them to throw in the towel and head for the Valley of Sun. That’s where I live and the WM Phoenix Open will be contested week. Scottie Scheffler will be trying to win his third Phoenix Open in succession. I think only Arnold Palmer did that, back in my day.

[Both Scottie Scheffler and Wyndham Clark speak publicly about their Christian faith. And I think both of them attend the PGA Tour Bible Study meetings.]
