Hockey is the #1 sport in Canada. Former pro hockey player Wayne Gretzky is rightly recognized as the G.O.A.T: Greatest Of All Time. (Former PGA Tour star Dustin Johnson—who has won the U.S. Open and 24 PGA Tour tournaments, is married to Wayne Gretzky’s daughter.)

Wayne Gretzky Is Ruining His Reputation

But in my opinion, Wayne Gretzky is ruining his reputation because he has become a big fan of U.S. President Donald Trump. Gretzky, because he has not said anything about this, appears to side with Trump in his threats to impose whopping 25% tariffs next Tuesday on Canadian imported goods to the U.S. It’s due to Trump’s bogus accusations that Canada has mistreated the U.S. for decades in our trade relations.

I believe that’s a bunch of baloney! Trump never tries to prove such lame accusations. He told Billy Bush that he believes in a philosophy that you tell people what you want them to believe, and you keep telling it to them over and over, and they eventually will believe you. Therefore, Trump doesn’t believe he needs to try to prove anything he says. Baloney! To me, it’s just deceived or stupid people who fall for such stuff.

“I’ll Build a Wall and Mexico Will Pay for It”

How about when Trump first appeared on the scene to campaign for the U.S. presidency. He got voted into the White House mostly because he was against illegal immigration into this country (which I am too) and he said he would build a wall along the 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border to stop it. Then he added, “I’ll build a wall, and Mexico will pay for it.” But he never told us how Mexico would be persuaded or forced or whatever to pay for it. From the time he was first saying that, I thought that anyone who believed that was an absolute dope. And that proved true. Trump never got Mexico to pay for any of his partial wall that he built along the border.

“I Want Canada to Become the 51st U.S. State”

Not only that, but our U.S. President Donald Trump began making serious, public statements three weeks ago saying “I want Canada to become the 51st U.S. state.” What an insult to Canadians who have their own sovereign nation! Canadians are proud of their country, and they should be.

Folks, I was born and reared in Seattle, Washington, less than 150 miles from the U.S.-Canadian border. As a twenty-year old amateur golfer, in 1962 I won the main amateur golf tournament in the Pacific Northwest—the PNGA Men’s Amateur—in Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA, which was 150 miles north from where I lived. Years later, in 1970, as a pro golfer on the PGA Tour I won its Canadian Open in London, Ontario.

I Know Canadians, and They Are Fine People

So, I know Canadians. They are good people. Over 1 million Canadians served in their armed forces along with the allies, which of course included the U.S., in WWII. That war was about good-versus-evil. And Canada was on the side of the good, as we were.

Canada and the U.S. are members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). It is vitally important to the security of its members, which are free, democratic nations in the world. NATO’s Article 5 binds all of its 32 member states to a commitment to militarily defend any of its members if they are attacked by another country.

In my opinion, it is a huge insult for Donald Trump to repeatedly say Canada should become the 51st state of the USA. Furthermore, this is an embarrassment for me as a U.S. citizen in my relations with Canadians. Moreover, Trump has been saying this almost as a threat, that is, if Canada doesn’t voluntarily do so, the U.S. will force it to. Trump has been making statements threatening that the U.S. will take ownership of Greenland, a sovereign nation in association with Denmark. And he has been saying he will not honor the agreement the U.S. has with Panama concerning its ownership of the Panama Canal, suggesting the U.S. may send troops to forcefully take back the canal.

I Was a Patriot Who Served in the U.S. Army

Folks, I served in the U.S. Army. I can tell you that if I was in our armed forces now, and the president of the United States of America ordered me to attack Canada and/or attack Greenland to steal ownership of those two countries, or maybe even to take back the Panama Canal, I WOULD DISOBEY THOSE ORDERS and thus refuse to do so. And I’m saying that especially since I’m angry that Donald Trump, commander of our armed forces, likely was a draft dodger as I documented in my book, Bible Predicts Trump Fall. And I think much of our armed forces would do the same—refuse the order.

Now, I also believe in being a patriot of my country. I wouldn’t have served in the military if I wasn’t patriotic. However, I also believe that my home nation should do the right thing. Thus, I believe in righteousness as taught in the Bible. If my nation is doing something unrighteous that is a very serious issue, I might be a protestor of it. I assure you that if I had lived in Germany when Hitler and his Nazi Party gained power, and then especially if I had learned about the Nazi Holocaust that led to 6 million Jews being killed, I certainly would have either escaped from the country or somehow disobeyed it in protest. Thus, we should not be patriotic to our country without also demanding that it do the right thing.

Trump Has Hijacked the Republican Party

When I went to college as an 18-year old freshman in Houston, Texas, right away I got involved somewhat in the anti-Communist Crusade that was growing in the U.S., especially in Texas. A lot of people involved in it were members of the Republican Party since it had a reputation for being strong on our nation’s defense and very anti-Communist and thus anti-Soviet Union. And we all know how U.S. President Ronald Reagan was that way, even contributing to the collapse of the Soviet Union in late 1991.

But Donald Trump has made the Republican Party in his image and thereby largely made his MAGA crowd pro-Putin and pro-Russia about its invasion and destruction of Ukraine in the biggest war in Europe since WWII.

Today, I watched the televised meeting between President Trump, Vice President Vance, and Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy as he pleaded for continued U.S. support and discussed the possibility of President Trump helping to bring about a peace deal that would end the war. Trump and Vance insulted Zelenskyy so many times. Trump said he was not for peace, even shouting at him, ended the meeting, and kicked him and his Ukrainians out of the White House. Told them no more and to go home.

Zelenskyy Got Ambushed at a White House Today

I thought that meeting looked like Zelenskyy had suffered a planned ambushed by those two guys. To me, it was disgusting how Trump and Vance berated Zelenskyy. He has been a courageous leader of his sovereign nation that has been invaded by Russia, so many cities destroyed, and many tens of thousands Ukrainians killed, not to mention perhaps hundreds of Russian soldiers killed.

Putin is an evil man. To me, Trump looks like a traitor to the U.S., siding with Putin’s Russia in this, often being called Putin’s Poodle. Trump showed himself disgusting the other day by accusing Ukraine of starting the war, and the next day saying he didn’t say that, which he certainly did. And of all things, Trump—who wants to be a dictator of the U.S. and praises Putin for being a dictator of Russia—called Zelenskyy “as dictator without elections.” As I wrote in my Trump book, Donald Trump is the biggest liar I have seen in my lifetime.

Wayne Gretzky has been photographed at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort wearing a MAGA hat. (MAGA means “Make America Great Again.”) And he’s done other things that are MAGA-like that have upset many Canadians. For example, when there are pro hockey and pro basketball games in recent days between the U.S. and Canada, held in Canada, fans reportedly have loudly booed when the Star Spangled Banner was being played because of their disgust for what the U.S. president has said he is going to do to Canada with tariffs and that it should become the U.S. 51st state. Yeah, just like Putin says Ukraine should become part of Russia, and he’s using his firepower to try to make it happen.

It’s About Doing the Right Thing

Bobby Orr, also one of Canada’s former, great pro hockey players, took out a full page ad in an Ontario newspaper last October defending his friend Gretzky’s MAGA stance. It said, “Listen, we all have our beliefs as it pertains to religion and politics. Wayne respects your right to such beliefs, why can’t you respect his.” Heh, this is not about some minor religious or political belief—its about having your own, free, democratic nation. As I wrote on my blog during Donald Trump’s first year in the White House, in 2017, and is now in my book about him, he doesn’t believe in democracy at all and wants to be a dictator. I think Canadians want to keep their democracy as freedom-loving people, and they should. But do we, the USA?

IMO, Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr are out-to-lunch, being deceived by Trump, because he is NOT about doing the right thing.
