Today, the U.S. White House is holding a conference involving certain selected individuals to discuss how to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. It is being led by President’s Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, Jason Greenblatt, and David Friedman. Greenblatt blamed Hamas for most of the crisis and said yesterday, “We are beholden to a brighter future for the Palestinians of Gaza.”
These three men have also been crafting a peace plan to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to be released soon. Sunday, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “There is no concrete U.S. peace plan on the table.” Whatever plan Kushner et. al. puts forward, it will not call for a two-state solution. So, I think it will be dead on arrival. This perennial conflict can only be solved with a two-state solution. It’s just that I think the participants have always had the wrong two-state solution. Plus, the Palestinian Authority (PA) will boycott this Gaza conference. After President Trump announced recently the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the PA said the U.S. was no longer a peace broker representing them. I think the president made a poor decision in doing that. The PA is now asking the European Union to get more involved in trying to solve this conflict. I think that may be their best way to go.
