Translation, 2 Kings 3

Translation, 2 Kings 3 May 30, 2005

Now Yhoram son of ‘Achav reigned-as-king over Yisrael in Shimron

in the year, the 18th, to Yhoshafat king of Yehudah.
And he reigned-as-king two and ten years.
And he did the evil in the eyes of Yahweh
only not as his father and as his mother.
And he caused-to-turn-aside the stele of the Baal which built his father.
Only to the sins of Yarav’am son of Nevat which he caused-to-sin Yisrael he clung.
He did not turn aside from them.

Now Meysha’ king of Moav was a sheep-dealer.
Now he caused-to-return to the king of Yisrael 100,000 pasture-lambs
and 100,000 rams of wool.
And it was according to the dying of ‘Achav
And rebelled the king of Moav against the king of Yisrael.
And went out the king Yehoram in that day from Shomron
And he mustered all Yisrael.
And he went and he sent to Yehoshafat king of Yehudah, saying,
“King of Moav rebels against me. Will you walk/go with me to Moav to battle?”
And he said,
“I will ascend.
As me, so you; as my people, so your people; as my horses, so your horses.”
And he said,
“Where this the way we ascend?”
And he said,
“Way of the wilderness of ‘Edom.”

And walked/went king of Yisrael and king of Yehudah and king of ‘Edom.
And they went-around the way seven days.
And there was not water for the camp and for the cattle which [were] at their feet.
And said king of Yisrael,
“Alas! For Yahweh called to the three kings, these, to give them into the hand of Moav.”
And said Yehoshafat,
“Is there not here a prophet to Yahweh?
And we shall consult Yahweh from him?”
And answered one of the servants of the king of Yisrael and he said,
“Here, ‘Eliysha’ son of Shafat,
Who poured water on the hands of ‘Eliyyahu.”
And said Yehoshafat,
“There is with him word of Yahweh.”

And went down to him king of Yisrael and Yhoshafat and king of ‘Edom.
And said ‘Eliysha’ to king of Yisrael,
“What to me and to you?
Go to the prophets of your father
And to the prophets of your mother.”
And said to him king of Yisrael,
“No. For Yahweh called to the three kings, these, to give them into the hand of Moav.”
And said ‘Eliysha’,
“Life of Yahweh of hosts which I stand before him:
For if the face of Yehoshafat king of Yehudah I myself did not lift
I would not look to you and I would not see you.
But now take for me a harpist.”
And it was according to the harping of the harpist
And it was on him the hand of Yahweh.
And he said,
“Thus says Yahweh.
‘Make the wadi, this one, pits pits.’
For thus says Yahweh,
?You shall not see Spirit/wind
And you shall not see rain
But the wadi, this one, will be filled with water.
And you shall drink, you and your livestock and your cattle.’
But this is slight in the eyes of Yahweh.
And he will give Moav into your hand.
And you will cause-to-strike all every city fortification
And every choice city.
And every good tree you will cause-to-fall
And every eye of water you will seal.
And every good plot you will wound with stones.?E

And it was in the morning
According to the ascending of the tribute
Now look! Water coming from the way of ‘Edom.
And the land was filled with water.

And all Moav heard
For the kings ascended to fight with them.
And they cried out from all [those] belted [with] belts
And they stood on the border.
And they rose-early in the morning
And the sun dawned on the water
And Moav saw from opposite, the water red as blood.
And they said,
“Blood [is] this.
Laying waste the kings have laid waste.
And they have struck each his neighbor.
But now! To the spoil, Moav!”

And they entered to the camp of Yisrael
And Yisrael rose
And struck Moav
And they fled from their face
And they entered into her
And to cause-to-strike Moav.

Now the cities they destroyed
And every good plot they flung each his stone, and they filled her.
And every eye of water they sealed
And every good tree they caused-to-fall
Until he [they] caused-to-remain her stones in the wall of earthenware (Qiyr-Charashet).
And the slingers went around and struck her.
And saw king of Moav for more fierce from him [was] the battle
And he took with him seven hundred men, drawers of sword,
To cause-division to king of ‘Edom
And they were not able.

And he took his son, the firstborn who [would] reign-as-king in his place
And he caused him to ascend as an ascension on the wall.
And it was great wrath against Yisrael.
And they broke camp from over it.
And they returned to the land.
