From Paige Mitts
“Jesus’ love goes before us, his look anticipates our needs. He can see beyond appearances, beyond sin, beyond failures and unworthiness. He sees beyond our rank in society. He sees beyond this, to our dignity as sons and daughters, a dignity at times sullied by sin, but one which endures in the depth of our soul. He came precisely to seek out all those who feel unworthy of God, unworthy of others.” – Apostolic Journey of His Holiness Pope Francis To Cuba, To The United States Of America, And Visit To the United Nations Headquarters (19-28 September 2015)
The hurtful words spoken to me at the end of my marriage with my ex-husband had rattled my self-esteem to the core. Feelings of unworthiness and failure loomed over me like a suffocating hood of shame. How could I be worthy of God’s love when I had failed so miserably at married love? It wasn’t until I began to understand the truth of Jesus’ love for us, how He came into this world for precisely this reason—to seek out his sons and daughters who feel unworthy of God – that the hurtful words were lies spoken not by my ex, but by the enemy….it was then that I began to travel on this profound journey of hope that has brought me into a deeper relationship with Jesus. Knowing that He can see beyond my sin and failures is the reason for my hope.
