The First Day of Advent – Advent Hope

The First Day of Advent – Advent Hope November 29, 2020

Advent Hope
(11/29)
They shall beat their swords into plowshares,

and their spears into pruning hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war any more. (Isaiah 2:4)

Advent begins with a dream. The impossible dream of peace on Earth good will to all. The amazing dream of “studying war no more.” Advent reminds us of the fierce urgency of now. We need a new world and we need it now – but sadly we are living in the in-between times. Jesus has come, born in Bethlehem, and yet we live with the daily conflicts related to the pandemic, incivility, and war.

need to dream. We must dream. Without a dream, our hopes perish. With a dream, we can make decisions day by day to make the world a better place. The Advent dream challenges us to be the change we want to see in the world. We need act on our dreams to bring healing to our lives, families, the nation, and the planet.

What dream is God is God giving you? What hopes awaken your passion? What one thing can you do today to make the world a better place?

Let us dream big dreams and then plant them on the ground with acts of kindness and mercy. Amen.
