What is God’s Desire for Mankind? December 2, 2024

When people ask what God’s desire for mankind is, most people would give the same answer: God desires that we live a life filled with happiness, love and prosperity. While happiness, love and prosperity are great and certainly are things that our Father in Heaven wants for us, the Bible tells us that God desires one main thing for mankind. Let’s talk about God’s desire for mankind.

God Knows What’s Best for Us

Whether we want to admit it or not, God always knows what’s best for us. It’s foolish to rely on our own feelings and emotions when it comes to what we think we want or need. The truth is our feelings and emotions can change in the blink of an eye. So, putting our faith in the Lord to guide us is always the best strategy.

We may think that we have it all figured out, but God has plans for us that we may not even consider because these plans are not on our radar. Isaiah 55:8-9 tells us:

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.”

You see, God knows everything. He knows exactly what we will go through, what we will face, how we will proceed in our lives, etc. You get the point. So, God does want the best for us and when looking at the Bible, a few staple scriptures stand out regarding this point.

Scriptures Proving God Wants the Best for Us

Jeremiah 29:11:

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Romans 8:28:

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

Matthew 6:26

“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”

Matthew 7:11

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”

Ephesians 3:20

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” (NLT)

So, we can see from this small sample of verses that God does indeed want the best for us. In fact, He will often give us even better than what we ask for. Knowing that God wants the best for us is an amazing feeling. This feeling gives us a sense of peace, while also giving us something to cling to when we feel as if we’re at the end of our rope. However, there is one main thing that God desires for all mankind and it is found in first Timothy chapter two.

God’s Desire for All Mankind

God desires so much for mankind, it’s true. But the one thing – and most important of all – is found in 1 Timothy 2:3-4 which says:

“For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (emphasis mine)

So, what is God’s desire for all mankind? His desire is for all men (and women) to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. It’s that simple.

Now, I want to point out what Paul writes in this letter to Timothy. Notice he doesn’t say SOME men, he says ALL men. That means everyone. God desires ALL of mankind to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. How is this supposed to happen?

Well, we have to read on in verses 5-6 which tells us how: “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all…” Paul is saying that we cannot reach God on our own, we need a Mediator, and that Mediator is Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ as Mediator

If you want God’s forgiveness, blessing or healing or if you just want to know Him more, you need Jesus to help on your behalf. As Paul says in verse five above there is one Mediator between God and man – only ONE – “the Man Christ Jesus.” Jesus is the Mediator and He is the only way.

Jesus is the only One who can save us – which is God’s desire for us all – and He can do that because He “gave Himself a ransom for all…” God the Son, Jesus Christ, came to earth to die in the place of all mankind.

This is why the Christmas season is so important. Christmas is the time that the Savior of the World was born to save us from our sin and death. Once we know and receive Jesus, then the truth becomes clear.

And with that, God’s desire for mankind is fulfilled.

Jesus is the Reason for the Season

Christmas is the time when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior. His birth brings hope and joy for all who believe. If you do not know Jesus,  reach out to someone who does and ask questions.

God loves all of us and He sent His one and only Son for us all. God’s desire for all mankind is to spend eternity with Him. One of the most amazing promises in the Bible is found in 1 Corinthians 2:9 which says:

“But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
