The Movie That Harry Can’t Tell You About. Plus: Win a Wall-E poster!

The Movie That Harry Can’t Tell You About. Plus: Win a Wall-E poster! June 16, 2008

Is this the year that an animated movie will win the Oscar for Best Picture?

Here’s hoping…

Harry Knowles at Ain’t It Cool…

I can’t tell you about arguably the best film Walt Disney has ever had its name on – and I certainly can’t go into how it is one of the absolute best hard science fiction films made in my adult life – and I won’t be able to go on and on about how it’s an incredible work of speculative future mythology the likes of which, I’ve never seen… whilst also being wildly entertaining and thought-provoking to literally all ages.

I wouldn’t say PIXAR has done it again, because honestly… They’ve never ever made a film this great before. Don’t get me wrong – I love love love the TOY STORYS, MONSTER INC, RATATOUILLE and THE INCREDIBLES… but this… This was gasp inducing.

This single handedly made me forget every other film I’ve seen this year. I’ve seen WALL*E and I can’t wait to do so again.

And so, in honor of this classified project, I am hereby announcing…

The Wall-E poster contest!!

Here’s what you must do to get your hands on a BEAUTIFUL new Wall-E poster:

Write a review (600+ words) of a feature film released in 2008 that I have *not* reviewed here at Looking Closer and turn it in by June 30. (You can see which films I’ve reviewed here.) Send that review to joverstreet [at] gmail [dot] com.

Consider what I like in a Looking Closer review: Consideration of the film’s artistry and meaning.

My favorite entries will be published here, with a link to the website of your choice.

If your review is my favorite of the stack, I’ll send you a Wall-E poster in the mail!

Selected reviews will become part of the Looking Closer archive. It’s okay with me if you’ve already posted the review elsewhere, but if you submit a review, you’re giving me permission to use it at my website as I see fit. (And if it’s already been published elsewhere, you must have permission to republish it.) But don’t worry, I won’t re-write your review. You won’t find your name on a review that’s been rewritten to reflect the reviews of someone else, like I keep hearing from the critics who have quit working for Movieguide.
