The Love Tour – Day 6, Beantown!

The Love Tour – Day 6, Beantown! February 13, 2012

We took a red-eye flight out of San Francisco the night of our launch party to head straight to Boston to start our East Coast leg of the Love Tour.  (Note: Redeyes are always better in idea than practice.)

First up was Boston University. We were delighted to be the guests of Professor Kecia Ali, who had us speak to her intro to Islam class. The students were assigned a couple of stories to prep for the class, and Ayesha read an excerpt aloud from her story for the first time.  The thoughtful and spirited discussion with the students continued after class over coffee and scones at the local BU hangout, Espresso Royale Caffe.

In the evening we headed to Harvard University for an event co-sponsored by the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Islamic Studies Program, Harvard Islamic Society, Islam in the West Program, and The Pluralism Project.

We were blown away by the turnout — 100+ people crammed into a student lounge with our books selling out in minutes!

Readers mingling after the event

Editors Ayesha and Nura were thrilled to meet contributor Najva Sol for the first time in person and very excited to catch contributor, Chinyere Obimba — a Harvard medical student — in action on her home turf.

Love InshAllah writers (L to R): Chinyere Obimba, Najva Sol, Nura Maznavi, Ayesha Mattu
