Game of Thrones Open Thread

Game of Thrones Open Thread

After this past Sunday’s episode, I feel like we need another thread for discussing this season of Game of Thrones! I have started to feel like this season surely cannot be written by the same people as last season—it almost feels like an entirely different show. The treatment of women this season has been amazing. When I watched the meeting between Danaerys and Yara, I felt I must surely be watching someone’s carefully drawn up feminist fan fiction, and not the actual show.

And let me note for a moment, for those who may be upset with Margaery’s current trajectory, that women in the middle ages often used religion to buttress their own position in various ways. It’s actually surprising that all of Sansa’s time in prayer in King’s Landing didn’t pay off for her in veneration by the people, and Margaery’s recent moves in the great game of power she is playing actually make a lot of sense.

Discuss! What do we like, what do we not like? Where do we see this season—and its characters—going? Warning—spoilers are to be expected!
