Nothing quite says Christmas like the gift of identity politics.

A supposedly hot item among social justice warriors this last Christmas was “Check Your Privilege” cards which are even less exciting than they sound, and a worse gift than a fruitcake.

In a nutshell: Fabiola Lara printed a very bland, uncreative business card that on one side states, “Uh-Oh! Your privilege is showing” and on the other side includes check boxes of the various privileges one might be exhibiting. They were printed on white cards probably because only white people can display “privilege” — and also heterosexual Christian males. The point is to hand them out to unsuspecting individuals who aren’t aware they just “made a comment that others cannot agree or relate to.”

They were sold in a “handy pack” of ten cards for five bucks, according to New York magazine. Lara was the brains behind NY mag’s favorite gift last year, the “pregnant/not pregnant calendar dedicated to a woman’s right to choose.” That settles it; these are the worst gifts ever.

Lara said she donated the proceeds from the card packs (all $5, because surely, she only sold one, right?) to an immigrant youth shelter in Brooklyn. The liberal magazine praised the endeavor, saying, “While a cashmere scarf might keep your family member warm for a while, the gift of self-awareness is forever.”

I’ll take the scarf because I’m well aware that it’s cold outside and it would be a privilege to stay warm.

As Instapundit put it, “This is how you got Trump, left-wing campus crybullies.”

Exactly.
