Did you know that Anti-Catholic bigotry is now straight up okey-dokey in the U.S. Senate? When President Donald Trump nominated Notre Dame law school professor Amy Barrett to serve on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, she was grilled by Senator Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) and Senator Dick Durbin (D., Ill.). Their un-Constitutional line of questioning suggested Barrett’s Catholic faith should disqualify her from the position.
Feinstein said, “When you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you. And that’s of concern when you come to big issues that large numbers of people have fought for for years in this country.” Then, unafraid to put too fine a point on it, she asked, “Do you consider yourself an orthodox Catholic?”
It didn’t take a theologian to surmise that Feinstein’s view of “orthodox” was not complimentary. A new ad from the Judicial Crisis Network reveals this bigotry:
The Judicial Crisis Network has made a six-figure ad buy taking aim at Feinstein and Sen. Dick Durbin’s (D., Ill.) questioning of Notre Dame law school professor Amy Barrett regarding her Catholic faith. The ad, which is called Catholics Need Not Apply, focuses on Durbin asking Barrett, a married mother of seven, if she considered herself an “orthodox Catholic” and Feinstein objecting to her nomination by saying, “the dogma lives loudly within you.”
The JCN says both lines of questioning reflect anti-Catholic bigotry.
“Liberal Democrats attacking Amy Coney Barrett, a judicial nominee with sterling credentials and bipartisan support just for being Catholic,” the ad says. “The message from Senate Democrats: Catholics need not apply.”
If you thought we got past all that “religious litmus test” in the Kennedy days, you are sorely wrong. Ironically, the Democrats — the party of John F. Kennedy — are keeping it alive and well.
These days, Democrats believe any flavor of Christianity is bad, and open for public abuse and derision.
These are the New Fascists Democrats.
