Have you heard the concept of “white privilege?” In 1988, Peggy McIntosh wrote a paper introducing the topic, which the Washington Post summed up as, “the level of societal advantage that comes with being seen as the norm in America, automatically conferred irrespective of wealth, gender or other factors. It makes life smoother, but it’s something you would barely notice unless it were suddenly taken away — or unless it had never applied to you in the first place.”
I would sum it up quite differently — it’s just another one of the many many ways that liberals attempt to make other people feel bad about things that are outside their control. I’d describe it as racist.
I regret to say that my alma mater San Diego State University is not exempt from the institutional racism and insanity now permeating universities across the nation… and is actually promoting this inane concept. Professor Dae Elliott teaches a sociology class there, and she recently made them an offer some couldn’t refuse. She handed out “White Privilege Checklist” with twenty questions that aimed to show how much white privilege the students have. “Racial privilege is one form of privilege,” she said.
Here’s the list — for fun, why not take this at home? No, you can’t get extra credit like the college students, but you can see how inane higher “education” has become:
The College Fix has some of the questions:
I can choose blemish cover or bandages in flesh color and have them more or less match my skin.
I can be late to a meeting without having the lateness reflect on my race.
I am not made acutely aware that my shape, bearing, or body odor will be taken as a reflection on my race.
I can enroll in a class at college and be sure that the majority of my professors will be of my race.
Note at the end of the paper, she suggests the students try to think of other types of privilege, including “gender, sexual orientation, class, and religion.” Thanks for the challenge, Professor. I came up with another kind. How about the privilege that comes from being a liberal working at a liberal university without a normal thinking, common sense co-worker to tell you that you’ve gone off the intellectual deep end? I don’t need a twenty question checklist to determine that’s the case for Professor Elliott and most other professors in college these days.
Here’s a news flash: the main problem of minority Americans is not white people… and it does no one any favors to pretend otherwise. The intent of the left and the New Democratic Fascists is to divide Americans and turn us against each other, based on skin color and gender.
Unbelievable… in another era, the left fought against this stuff.
Now, my alma mater — really, almost all colleges — are promoting it.
