It’s getting pretty boring to have to correct all of the constantly inaccurate messages coming from the media and Hollywood. I guess we have to add “British authors” to the list of people we need to keep an eye on.
Harry Potter creator JK Rowling recently caused quite a stir on twitter when she started explaining that her mother was in a wheelchair for at least part of her life, and that she is particularly sensitive to people with disabilities… and the way they are treated. In a Tweet Storm that went absolutely viral, she railed against American President Donald Trump’s treatment of disabled people.
“Trump imitated a disabled reporter. Now he pretends not to see a child in a wheelchair, as though frightened he might catch his condition,” she wrote, followed by “This monster of narcissism values only himself and his pale reflections. The disabled, minorities, transgender people, the poor, women (unless related to him by ties of blood, and therefore his creations) are treated with contempt, because they do not resemble Trump.”
The catalyst for her tweeting was a post she saw on Twitter by Ansel Herz, who has since deleted it. The reason he deleted the post is because it turned out to be a deceptively-edited video clip. In the clip, it looked like the President was absolutely ignoring a disabled boy in a wheelchair while giving attention to the able-bodied children. Even though the tweet is deleted, a YouTube video shows what first caused the stir:
Wow. That’s pretty damning, right? Not if you see the whole thing.
Turns out, the President had already seen and acknowledged the boy. A more complete video shows the fullness of what transpired. The President comes out, sees the boy, and kneels down to greet him… all of this is before he greets the other children.
She’s doing great work! Not sure that clip is as bad as it seems though: https://t.co/ym1nnwahQ6

That shows a completely different take on the situation, doesn’t it? You would think now that this longer video has come to light that the famous Harry Potter author would issue an apology for her wrong-headed tirade. Except, she hasn’t.
In fact, many people are wondering:
Why hasn’t @JK_Rowling corrected her bogus tweets about this? (https://t.co/9kdDSDkEQo) https://t.co/UjF0Pw8n7G

So, to be clear, Rowling is 100% wrong yet refuses to take down the tweet. It’s apparent the famous author doesn’t care that she’s spreading fake news to all of the thousands of people who saw and retweeted her message.
No amount of wizardry will be able to repair her reputation after this.
