As far as health care as a right, I heard what the conservative radio people said on that, but what I have never heard is “what is the right thing to do.” It seems as though health care has boiled down to money, is it a right, and power, not about people.
Three years ago my 3 year old niece was diagnosed with cancer in one of her kidneys. The cancer was discovered during a routine annual check-up (one of those things that is not a “right”) by her pediatrician who noticed a small lump. Within 3 days she had surgery and then several months of chemo. She is now cancer free (Praise God!!). Because my brother’s insurance covered annual physicals, they scheduled one which saved her life.
I for one cannot agree with Father Orsi that “The only right that one human being owes to another is “medical care.” This means care and treatment for an immediate need.” Had they waited for the “immediate need” it may have been too late.
