Did Paul Ever Kill Anybody?

A reader asks:

I have a question that we have recently discussed in our prayer group. The question is :

We know that Paul arrested Christians, but did he ever kill anyone? Is there biblical evidence for or against this?

Grateful for your knowledgeable answer.

All Luke tells us is that Paul gave consent to the stoning of Stephen. There is no biblical evidence that he ever killed anybody himself. Of course, by Jesus lights, if you hate your brother from your heart, you are as good as guilty of murder. It is notable that Paul, in Romans 7, focuses on the one sin in the Decalogue that is interior: covetousness. It suggests that he was also conscious of his guilt before God of the sin of hating his brother from the heart. But that’s about as far as we can take that line of reasoning.
