…when they really do act like Nazis? This what the Right now stands for in the country.
Not, of course, that the Left is any better. That’s been my point all along: our ruling classes keep stampeding us around, warning darkly that Those Guys Over There are Oligarchs who treat the human person as an object, when the fact is that virtually all our ruling classes (and our Manufacturers of Culture in the media) are quite united in viewing the human person as the means to whatever ends they wish to pursue. Virtually all of them are committed to policies which are quite comfy with doing whatever they feel necessary in pursuit of some other goal than the dignity and flourishing of the human person. For virtually all of them, the goal is primarily along the lines of “saving my own skin” and where possible, “fattening my own skin”. Our role as consumers of their agitprop is to pick a team and root for it, not to talk about the dignity of the human person (except insofar as it is useful to making the Other Guy look bad. So Dem leaders talk about the dignity of the torture victim but teach their Team to cheer for murdering babies and the old while GOP manipulators promise action any day now (for 30 years) on the unborn, issue talk about euthanasia–and tell their Cheer Squad that we wouldn’t do torture and experimentation on all those brownskins if they weren’t guilty of terrorism, now would we?
The case in point for the right is the link above. The case in point on the Left: Killing the weak and expensive. A reader writes:
I’ll give the standard Obama reply: First, this is just scare mongering. Second, your health insurance does the same thing. Third, it will never happen. Fourth, wouldn’t it be better to have a discussion on when life should end in a democratic process, instead of a profit-driven process? Fifth, this is just scare mongering. Sixth, the old consume a disproportionate amount of medical resouces. Seventh, this will never happen. Eighth, the benefits of medical care should be determined by doctors, not private interests. Ninth, this is just scare mongering. Repeat. Over and over and over again.
We live in a world trapped in a horse race between gigantic state actors and gigantic corporations who are fighting it out for power and money. Both have public relations departments whose job is to lie to you that they care about you and that the Other Guy is trying to destroy you. Both care about you only insofar as they can exploit you. And both are racing for the day when they will kill you if you cease to be useful and start to get in the way.
