Forget the Catechism

Let’s all get our intellectual formation from a radical Mormon who was too weird even for Mormons and on whom the Hoover’s FBI had a 2000 page file. Because that’s what a huge number of people, directed by the latest guru, are doing:

“The first thing you could do,” he said, “is get ‘The 5,000 Year Leap.’ Over my book or anything else, get ‘The 5,000 Year Leap.’ You can probably find it in the book section of GlennBeck.com, but read that. It is the principle. Please, No. 1 thing: Inform yourself about who we are and what the other systems are all about. ‘The 5,000 Year Leap’ is the first part of that.

Ideas have consequences, as the Right will find out if they keep following this nuttery.

Non-Catholic conservatives I can see casting around in desperation for some sort of anchorhold as the fortunes of their party tanks. But Catholics? Battening on this radical paranoid Mormon apocalyptic rubbish in preference to the guidance of the Church? That’s nuts.

Look here, upon this picture, and on this,
The counterfeit presentment of two brothers.
See, what a grace was seated on this brow;
Hyperion’s curls; the front of Jove himself;
An eye like Mars, to threaten and command;
A station like the herald Mercury
New-lighted on a heaven-kissing hill;
A combination and a form indeed,
Where every god did seem to set his seal,
To give the world assurance of a man:
This was your husband. Look you now, what follows:
Here is your husband; like a mildew’d ear,
Blasting his wholesome brother. Have you eyes?
Could you on this fair mountain leave to feed,
And batten on this moor? Ha! have you eyes?

Where are the Catholic conservatives saying, “Whoa! Not so fast! Why are we taking this guy seriously?”
