The task of youth is heroism

Youth are attracted to the heroic gesture as surely as iron is attracted to a magnet. Case in point, the delightful spectacle of a Young Bright daring the howling mob of crazed Ned Flanders to burn him out of his towering Laboratory of Reason and Science:

The only true flames are those struck upon the torches of deluded mobs; packs of the faithful and the certain who seethe with those absurd myths. To defend against them, to erode those illusions, you must embrace the risk of being burned. There is no other way.”

Remember: these people are all about Realism and Facts.

Seriously though, what this demonstrates is that JPII was a wise man to institute World Youth Day and give youth what they long for: a cause that really is worth dying for: Jesus Christ and him crucified. They ache for it and when they can’t find one that invent imaginary romantic martyrdoms like this guy.
