Catholic and Enjoying It!
I talked to a friend of mine yesterday who left the Church because of the Abuse Scandal but who is now thinking of returning. He has been attending Another Leading Brand of Denomination and watching it circle the drain with its sundry embraces of abortion, gay sex and other contemporary trendinesses.
He said, “When I left the Catholic Church, I said, ‘They’re just paying lip service to the gospel!’ Now I find myself thinking, ‘At least they pay lip service to the gospel.'”
Not quite how I’d put it, but it does still capture an important truth (as well as crack me up). All the Church is promised is to preserve the gospel. It’s up to us to live it and we are no great shakes at that.
Ah, but how wonderful on the occasions that we do!
