FYI, I got this email from the Maryland Catholic Conference about the latest piece of skeeziness that NARAL and Planned Parenthood are trying to push through in Maryland, and for some reason the Baltimore City Council seems to actually be considering it rather than just seeing it as an attempt by PP to avoid losing money from the women who don’t get abortions. I don’t know if you have any Baltimore-area readers who haven’t already gotten this from local pro-life mailing lists, but if it works, MurderCo’s planning on bringing it to other places, too, so it doesn’t just affect us. Just spreading the word!
God bless, and have a great weekend,

Welcome to Catholic Advocacy Network members who joined through registration at parishes.
A bill in the Baltimore City Council that harasses pro-life pregnancy centers will be voted on next week. If passed, it could be a model for other local or statewide bills that seek to discredit the work of pro-life charities. Please click the “take action” link now to urge the Baltimore City Council to oppose Bill 09-0406. Watch the video “Truth in Advertising” to learn more.
Bill 09-0406, “Limited Service Pregnancy Centers-Disclaimers,” would require pro-life pregnancy resource centers to post a sign listing services they do NOT provide (abortion or contraception) or face a fine of several hundred dollars a day. The bill only targets pro-life organizations and would not apply to abortion clinics. This is the second time in as many years that the abortion lobby in Maryland has tried to discredit pregnancy resource centers. These centers are charities that provide emotional and material assistance to pregnant women in need – a welcome service in a time of economic difficulty and in a state where the abortion rate is nearly 40% higher than the national rate.
Planned Parenthood of Maryland urges its supporters in an alert to help “make Baltimore City the first in the nation to require these centers to post signage” and NARAL Pro-Choice Maryland calls the legislation “landmark” – a clear indication that, if it is successful, the abortion lobby will try to pass similar bills in other jurisdictions.
More information on Bill 09-0406 – including testimony, news coverage, and videos – is available here. Stand up for pregnant women in need by clicking the “take action” link now to contact the Baltimore City Council and urge members to oppose Bill 09-0406. Thank you.
