My apologies to Lifesite News

My apologies to Lifesite News 2014-12-31T17:44:18-07:00

Down below, I spoke of the Lifesite rumpus over Benedict vs. Harry Potter as “lies” and said that “the Lifesite scam was a mendacious misrepresentation”. I do regard Lifesite’s treatment of the matter as a gross misrepresentation of Pope Benedict and a silly embarrassment to the Church. In this, I basically agree with Jimmy Akin’s assessment of how they mishandled the matter.

That said, I think, upon reflection that I should not have called these gross misrepresentations “lies” nor “mendacious” since I can’t know the hearts of the people who wrote the pieces. Similarly, I think using the word “scam” was rhetorical overkill since a scam implies some sort of scheme to cheat people out of something and that is not what I think Lifesite was trying to do at all.

So: my apologies to Lifesite. Mea culpa.

Oh, and I’m gonna modify the blog entry in question to reflect this.
