Greetings from Somewhere Over North America! 2014-12-31T17:28:00-07:00

I’m taking advantage of the wifi service on the plane to plow through my mail and respond to some of the stuff that’s been piling up!

Dallas and Oklahoma went well. Fr. Shane Tharp, my evil mirror universe twin, is well, though there is much less of him due, not to amputation, but to a spectacularly successful weight loss program he has been on for a couple of year. I feel like Jesus to his John the Baptist: he decreases and I increase. Your prayers for my lifelong struggles with Hindenburg tendencies would be appreciated!

The talks were fun and people seemed to get a lot out of them, which makes me happy since that’s what it’s all about. I also got a chance to speak to Fr. Shane’s high school class and they were a bunch of sharp kids, so that was an extra bonus. Plus I was able to get my Big Giant Projects all done, so I’ll have a breather when I return.

Also, I had a great brainstorming session with Fr. Shane about a story idea I’ve been kicking around for a year or so that I had gotten stuck on. A logjam was loosed and I now have a much better idea about how the second and third acts should go. I’m not much on fiction writing, so this will be a new challenge for me (assuming I ever find time to write it), but I’d like to give it a crack. It’s a lulu.

By the way, something else that came up this weekend courtesy of the Holy Spirit and another conversation with Fr. Shane: I don’t think I’ve said nearly enough how much I love and appreciate youse guys for all your support, readership, and general friendship. So let me say it now: I love you guys for all the years of time and energy you’ve invested in reading my prattle here and elsewhere. I appreciate as well, that you are a caring, thoughtful, reflective audience who cares about the things that matter most. You’re also damn funny, some of you. And you teach me good things and show me the face of Christ.

So thanks! I’m deeply grateful.
