…both sang in a vocal jazz ensemble, I have a more than passing interest in any group that has been called “the Grateful Dead of Barbershop Quartets”.

Behold Acoustix!

It’s in the Shea blood. My cousin, Albert Shea (seen here second from the left)

was one of the founders of what might be called the Beatles of Barbershop Quartets (I was told that by a BQ afficianado who was awed by my blood relationship to the most famous BQ tenor of the most famous BQ of them all).

It reminds me of a conversation I had with Zippy when I was out visiting him at his super secret East Coast compound some time back. I remarked that somebody, somewhere is the world’s most famous stamp collector. Most of the time, he’s an anonymous dweeb. But when he walks into certain rooms filled with certain people, heads turns, voices whisper, women feel faint and men feel stirrings of admiration and pangs of jealousy. Then, when he walks out of that room, he goes right back to being just another average schlub. I felt like that guy when I mentioned my relationship to Albert Shea to that BQ fan. Temporarily famous by association.

Anyway, Acoustix. Check thou them out.
