NPR Fears the Romish Menace

Thinks it’s a big deal that so many papists are on the court.

Does anybody, for one second, think that if NPR said:

With Paramount executive Joe Whitebread talking openly about retirement, attention has focused on the “who” — as in who is on the short list of potential nominees for his successor. But almost nobody has noticed that when Whitebread retires, it is entirely possible that there will be no Gentile execs on the board for the first time ever.

Topic With A Hint Of Taboo

Let’s face it: This is a radioactive subject.

If anybody wrote about Jews what this article says about Catholics we would hear holy hell about it–and rightly so.

Catholics are not a monolith. The notion that Scalia and Kennedy are interchangeable because Catholic is something only NPR could believe. There is no InRomeCon just as there is no InJewcon.

When you’ve met one Catholic, you’ve met one Catholic. The question is not, “Is the next judge Catholic?” The question is, “Is the next judge qualified?”
