First, here she is talking about how Tolerance Nazism is biting the Gay Community in the butt now that the shoe is on the other foot. Time was, we were drowned in tears of bitter pain because Boy Scouts (who are smarter than Catholic bishops) decided it wouldn’t be a good idea to let men with a thing for boys to be involved in Scouts. Lot of legal pressure was put on the Scouts to try to make people think that membership in Scouts was a civil right and not what it is, a private association that write their own by laws however they want.

Now, however, some local gay baseball team is getting sued by some bisexual guys who are demanding to be let on to the team. Same difference, as far as I’m concerned. If the team wants to be a team for only those they deem gay enough then hey! It’s their team. Let the bisexual guys start their own team and take some insensitivity training to assuage their sense of grievance.

Elsewhere, she makes the very salient point that while Fr. Owen Kearns apology is a fine start, it does rather make clear that whatever the Register was doing during Maciel’s tenure, it was not doing what we normally call “journalism”. Journalism would be the pursuit of the truth, not the knee jerk reiteration of the party line of the Dear Leader. That, of course, is the source of the frustration and hostility to the apology. It was possible to get at the facts about Maciel quite some time ago. The exile of Fr. Maciel from public life by Benedict ought to have been a clue if nothing else. But, the Register having been taken up and incorporated into the Machine that Maciel built, it did not do the job of finding out what the Machine did not wish to be found out and left others to do that. That’s not journalism. And Red is perfectly right to point that out. Hopefully, with this apology, we will be seeing a new page being turned and the Register will practice a more vigorous pursuit of the actual facts, not only about Maciel, but about the leadership of the Legionaries that, at this hour, continue to spew happy talk and control an enormous amount of money that is, to put it gently, not being used for the purposes of Jesus Christ.
