RIP Denis Archer

Some bad news. An old friend of our family, Denis Archer, has died. Denis and his wife Eileen are the sort of people I’ve often suspected will go straight to Heaven when they die, so I feel worse for our loss than for Denis’. But I feel most keenly for Eileen, who was so brave, so heartbreakingly brave, when she called to give us the news. She is a sweet lady from Ireland who is just the soul of all that is best in Irish Catholic goodness, gentleness, hospitality and prayerful, humble love. She misses him so.
