this and this are why I think Christian torture supporters are so fantastically myopic about where their short-sighted bid for safety leads. The notion that a post-Christian state is basically going to be Leave it to Beaver with a few rough spots aimed at protecting Good Christian Folk from the New Foreign Menace is just delusional. Give a post-Christian Caesar the unilateral power to torture and murder whoever he deems to be an Enemy of the State and he will joyfully take that power. But you won’t like it when he does.
Consequentialism, in addition to being wrong, is stupid.
