The trouble is, when you put it that bluntly, you arouse American Pride, which so far from being regarded as a sin, is hailed universally as a virtue. Thinking goes out the window, people stop asking if our failing attempt to prop up a narco-state kleptocracy makes any sense, and everybody starts shouting that they’ll be damned if they let our country be intimidated. Result: we continue a brain-dead policy because we’d rather act stupid than feel stupid.
