has two interesting pieces on the Intentional Disciples blog. One is on the death of Irish American Cradle Catholicism in New England. The other is on the rising phenom of Protestants who describe themselves as “socially Catholic.”

Can’t speak too much to the former. Of the latter, though, I can say that Catholics should regard such things from the “glass half full” perspective instead of sniping about supposed hypocrisy or deliberate inconsistency. People in the process of conversion are like houses half-built. There’s no use complaining about the mess and the fact that not everything fits together or that there are big chunks of the house still unconnected with each other. It’s a half-finished house. What did you expect? Instead, we should be grateful that Protestants, exposed to the rich social teaching of the Church, are embracing it in its beauty. Our task is to help finish the house, not gripe that it’s not finished yet.
