when they make dogmatic pronouncements about things that oppose common sense, or the teaching of the Church, or the evidence of my five wits. It’s because they are often dead wrong.
Not always dead wrong, of course. And the cottage industry of pundits who are as proud of their ignorance as experts are of their expertise is not a big step forward. Pride makes you stupid whether you are clever or dumb. Book burnings by arrogant people are not the solution to bad books by other arrogant people. What people need to cultivate is a critical intellect, not a disused and despised intellect.
