Catholic and Enjoying It!
…about Hollywood’s chronic inability to portray healthy masculinity. In one corner, you have the Perpetual Boy. In the other, you have the steroid-rage monkey blowing everything up, dismembering, and slitting throats for God and Country.
This gets reflected, of course, in our national discourse between the Professionally Aggrieved Grievance Professional who is constantly vying for Most Tragic Victim Status when he isn’t muddling about his Fear of Commitment and (on the other hand) the Laptop Bombardier and Management Class Coward (like Dick “Other Priorities” Cheney) who copes with his five draft deferments by imagining that brutality is the same thing as courage.
As ever, the only thing that will reintegrate these disintegrating shreds of real masculinity is Jesus Christ. However, this presents us with a problem since the Church, as is her custom, shares in the dementia of the culture.
