My friend Angela the Foodie writes:

Father Robert Spitzer will be debating Stephen Hawking tonight on Larry King ((CNN) at 6 p.m. PT, 7 p.m. MT, 8 p.m. CT, and 9 p.m. ET). Both men will be discussing their recently published books concerning the origins of the universe. Both men are physicists. One is also a priest. How cool is that?

Deepak Chopra will also be on board to sprinkle his new age mumbo jumbo over this discussion like so much unicorn glitter. Ooh shiny.

For those of you who don’t know him, Father Spitzer is a Jesuit priest, philosopher, and physicist who was formerly the head of Gonzaga University. I have had the pleasure of hearing him speak in Seattle several times. He’s an incredible guy.

Tune in to watch Zombie Larry snap his suspenders in wonder as these formidable men of science duke it out! (If you have the cable that is).

If they stick to science, it will be a battle of equals. If they move (as they will) to philosophy and metaphysics, Fr. Spitzer will be the Terminator going up against two kindergartners. On the other hand, the medium doesn’t allow you to say much. All views, no matter how inane, have to be treated with equal gravity (which is why a dimwit like Chopra is being included in the discussion), and you constantly have to deal with dumb interrupting questions from the shallow host that have no grasp of the argument, as well as commercial interruptions. Should be interesting.
