Offers this brave defense of “Dr.” Gosnell’s worldview and makes a stunning “How nature says, ‘don’t touch'” case for his particularly fetching version of Evangelical Atheism:

[T]he standard bullying tactics of waving bloody fetuses might cow the squeamish, but I’m a biologist. I’ve guillotined rats. I’ve held eyeballs in my hand and peeled them apart with a pair of scissors. I’ve used a wet-vac to clean up a lake of half-clotted blood from an exsanguinated dog. I’ve opened bodies and watched the intestines do their slow writhing dance, I’ve been elbow deep in blood, I’ve split open cats and stabbed them in the heart with a perfusion needle. I’ve extracted the brains of mice…with a pair of pliers. I’ve scooped brains out of buckets, I’ve counted dendrites in slices cut from the brains of dead babies.

You want to make me back down by trying to inspire revulsion with dead baby pictures? I look at them unflinchingly and see meat. And meat does not frighten me.

What this stirring defense of the Gosnell view of life overlooks is that it is also a stirring defense of the Dr. Josef Mengele view of life. He, like Myers, was “unafraid” to reduce millions of other, slightly older, human beings to “pieces of meat”.

Strangely, Myers does not volunteer his own body to be reduced to a piece of meat for the sake of Science, much less for the sake of a baby. What he does do very effectively though is demonstrate once again that a coward is congenitally unable to distinguish brutality from courage and regards himself as brave for, among other things, being unmoved by the thought of stabbing a defenseless baby to death with scissors. The distinction between that act and interposing one’s body between the baby and a fiend like himself is lost on a moral monster like Myers. Like Jeffrey Dahmer, he is “unafraid” to reduce persons to meat. Oddly, nobody frets about his “incivility” or the effect he might have on some Jared Loughner in his class.

The only thing more disgusting than this man’s words is the fact that thousands of readers regard him as the ne plus ultra of moral and intellectual wisdom (though they are concered about kittens) and that he a) still has a job teaching young skulls full of mush at Wilbur Weed College (or whatever it’s called) and his blog is still hosted by whoever it is that thinks this guy is a Hot Ticket.

Meanwhile, if people like Maciel constitute a source of doubt about the merits of the Catholic faith, I have to wonder if at least some atheists don’t get up in the morning, read Myers and his slavering acoltyes, and have a visceral reaction which impels them to get as far away from such monsters as possible.
