If you want a really smart piece of literary criticism regarding Harry Potter, not to mention some very interesting insights about the psychology and theology of belief in magic, you can’t do better than the fantastic John C. Wright. I would be particularly interested to see John and Steven Greydanus have a conversation about this, because both have very interesting things to say about magic.
