John Allen on Cardinal O’Malley’s handling of the sex abuse crisis

Seems about right to me. I met Cdl. O’Malley briefly in Boston last summer. Seemed like a very gracious man, and one bearing a heavy burden. Something in his affect suggested he was suffering greatly. No surprise there, given the mess he has to try to clean up. I think best thing we can do for him is pray. He appears to be trying very hard to do the right thing. I’d hate to be in his shoes, particularly with the “let no good deed go unpunished” approach the world always dishes out to decent men.
