of Mary, Mother of the Son with good overview of Volume 3: Miracles, Devotion, and Motherhood
Nice quote from Lepanto too! “Christian hateth Mary whom God kissed in Galilee.”
The good news is that, as my book tries to point out, that reflexive terror of Mary seems to be on the decline in Protestant circles, particularly among Emergent Evangelicals. Partly this is due to the phenomenon of the rising generation thumbing it’s nose at the taboos and shibboleths of its elders. Mom and Dad regarded Mary as a danger, so junior sees her as Forbidden Fruit. But also there is a genuine spiritual longing for what has been lost by this long, unnatural, loathing of the one person who, more than any other, had the face and heart most like Christ’s in this world. I welcome the return of young Protestants to Marian devotion. May their tribe increase! She is the Mother of *all* the baptized.
