FatimaForToday.com offers free study guides, other resources about 1917 apparitions

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 11, 2011 – The sun danced in the sky 94 years ago on Oct. 13. Known since as the “Miracle of the Sun,” the event marked the final apparition of the Virgin Mary in Fatima, Portugal, to Francisco and Jacinta Marto and their cousin, Lucia dos Santo.

Writing in Fatima For Today, Fr. Andrew Apostoli, C.F.R., says of the miracle, “Unless we had been present at the Cova on October 13, 1917, we probably cannot grasp the tremendous impact of the spectacular miracle the people witnessed that day. It certainly was one of the most incredible events in human history, as it defies any human explanation.”

How much do you know about Fatima, the Miracle of the Sun, the secrets Mary revealed to the three peasant children, and her call to pray the Rosary daily? October – which is devoted to the Rosary and includes the anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun – is a perfect time to visit a website devoted to Fatima.

Developed by Ignatius Press, www.FatimaForToday.com soon will provide study guides to accompany Fatima for Today and two landmark films produced by Ian and Dominic Higgins – The 13th Day and Finding Fatima. The free study guides, written by Marian expert and well-known Catholic author Mark Shea, will be available for download as PDF files beginning Oct. 20th from FatimaForToday.com. Visitors also will find information on a variety of books and videos on Our Lady of Fatima.

“The message of Fatima is as relevant and important today as it was when Mary first presented it to the children,” said Ignatius Press President Mark Brumley. “We developed the Fatima For Today website to support that message by serving as the source for information and resources covering every aspect of Fatima.”

“The message of Fatima has often been described as a brief summary of the essentials of Christian living,” Fr. Apostoli writes in Fatima for Today. “Our lady of Fatima has given us a great reminder of these essentials for our difficult times.”

In addition to Fr. Apostoli’s book and the landmark films, the website provides access to information on a booklet What Happened at Fatima, published by Catholic Truth Society, and a variety of other books and videos that will bring Fatima to life for people of all ages. There’s even a Fatima coloring book for children!
