Catholic and Enjoying It!
…the normal rules don’t apply to you because it is an illusion that we have the same rights as our elites. If somebody exercises their free speech rights by, say, calling me a fat slob who hates America and wants to kill babies (as sometimes happens in my comboxes), I cannot send government goons to arrest and detain them, because I am an ordinary slob like you and am not more equal than you are. I can boot you from my combox for being a rude abusive jerk (because I don’t owe you a forum). But I can’t use my private goons to jail you merely because were rude to me.
But if you are Dick Cheney (or many other members of our Ruling Elite) you can do this with ease because, hey! You are not bound by normal laws like an ordinary peon. You can have people arrested and even threaten to rob them of their children for exercising free speech.
What’s especially funny is that the same people who are everlastingly baffled about whether the drownings, beatings and freezings he ordered constitute torture are going to be the same people who are absolutely certain that putting a hand on Cheney’s shoulder is “assault” and deserves the full punishment of police state force against the Dear Leader’s “assailant”. What, after all, are the police for but to protect the immensely powerful from contact with the people they represent?
