I am contacting you under the encouragement of my future Sisters of the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist with hopes that you may be interested in helping to support my vocation. After 5 years of working towards a PhD in Chemistry, having received a Master’s degree along the way, I decided this past spring to exit my program to follow God’s calling to this community. I am excited to be officially accepted to enter postulancy this August 28th. At the same time, I also have educational debt that I need to get ‘promised off’ in pledges or simply in gifts before Aug. 28th so that I can actually enter the convent. As you know, as part of the vow of poverty, a person who enters religious life must be debt-free. Since we take first vows 3 years after entering the community, those who make pledges have 3 years to fulfill their promise in affordable monthly payments.
I am writing to ask if you would help me share my story and my fundraising goal via your social media and/or other networks. I am currently using the following blog to share my story/goal: www.boilervocation.com or http://about.me/emmanuela_ohaeri.
Given that the charism of our community is teaching, I look forward to potentially using my background in Chemistry towards this mission. I would love to finally be ‘home’ and united in faith with my Sisters, to enter fully into this life of total self-donation this fall rather than to postpone it because of my debt. Thus, I am appealing to my Church family and anyone who believes in the mission of our community and would want to support it.
I greatly appreciate your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
Peace and blessings,
Emmanuela
