    In fairness to the atheist, appeals to ‘the earliest’ or ‘the original’ aren’t uncommon in or out of atheist circles.

    Heh, I always get a kick out of this sort of thing. Over at Fr. Longnecker’s blog, I once saw an atheist commenter claim that the Gospel Of Luke was written by Eusebius around 320 AD, but “Mary was invented in 431 AD” is the new cake-taker.
