I once saw a bag of peanuts displaying the warning “May contain traces of peanuts”…

Yeah, I get the humor – trust me, I really do – but as a parent of a child with multiple food allergies, I am also so dang grateful for FALCPA: the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004. Imagine the novelty! Having to declare, in plain English, every ingredient & top 8 allergen in your food! But did y’all know that’s only for FDA-regulated products? For USDA-regulated products, I get to spend lots & lots of time writing emails and making phone calls to companies…just to find out if something included in my Thanksgiving turkey (for example) might kill my kid. Good times! 🙂

My son’s best friend is allergic to peanuts, eggs, and all dairy. We really appreciate this too. It makes it easy to keep safe snacks around for when he visits.
