My Take on the “Declining Religion in America” poll results

My Take on the “Declining Religion in America” poll results June 17, 2015

We are all Seattleites now.

If you think that Americans should go on being conventionally and culturally “Christian” while cannibalizing the Faith in order to buttress their *real* political and cultural agendas that are often the polar opposites of the Faith, then you will see the poll as a disaster.

If you think that it’s better that people be honest and that any step toward truth is, in the long run, a step toward God, you won’t be super upset. This is just a clarifying moment in which people who remain on a search for God are stating clearly that they have not yet found what they are looking for in our current–frequently phony as a 3 dollar bill–American culture.

The real point of the poll is that it constitutes an urgent call to Catholics to learn how to how live as Intentional Disciples, embracing the whole of Catholic teaching and not taking a red and gold pen to it in order to blow off the party we don’t like.

The world is waiting–has always been waiting–for non-revisionist Catholics who live the fullness of the Faith. The fields are still white for harvest.

Working together with him, then, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says,
“At the acceptable time I have listened to you,
and helped you on the day of salvation.”
Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. (2 Co 6:1–2)./blockquote>
