The Party of Personal Responsibility’s Severed Corpus Callossum

The Party of Personal Responsibility’s Severed Corpus Callossum July 21, 2015

Brain researchers have long marveled at the strange way in which those who have had the two halves of their brain severed can literally live in a body where the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing:

Much the same thing seems to obtain with the Party of Person Responsibility as it tries to maintain to itself a veneer of Righteousness while throwing itself body and soul at a repellent egoist who invokes God while rejecting repentance, a Mammon worshipper who persuade militarists who once “supported the troops” to insult soldiers who were tortured while he sat on his fat butt partying and gorging his bank account, a pro-abort who cares about marriage so much that he has had four wives.

All you have to do it read Rush Limbaugh’s hosannas to Trump or, better still, the orgasmic raptures of the Facebook Dittoheads to this “witless ape” (as NRO calls him) and one thing is abundantly clear: Note how *nothing* in this man’s popularity has anything in the world to do with the Five Non-Negotiables (abortion, euthanasia, ESCR, cloning, and gay “marriage”). Not one thing. He’s on record as a pro-abort. He cares about marriage so much he’s had four of them. He’s spoken publicly about how he’d date his daughter. He seriously believes that money is the measure of a person’s worth (an attitude as anti-Christian as the Black Mass). He frankly states that he has never asked for the forgiveness of his sins. And yet, the Party of God *adores* this man, making clear what the *real* non-negotiables are for the GOP: racism and adoration of Mammon. Every big bump in the polls has come from bashing minorities, not from anything remotely connected to the 5NNs. Why would any Catholic or Christian throw their lot in with this?

Now, at some level, the conservative subculture gets this and feels ashamed of whoring after this guy (current approval rating 57% of the GOP). How do I know? Because while the right brain is shamefully saying “He’s just saying what we’re all thinking. How we love that tasty Latino-bashing!” the left brain of the Party of Personal Responsibility is trying to figure out a way to blame their adoration of the guy on somebody else.

So one repeatedly see attempts to float the theory that Trump’s popularity is not due to the massive stupidity of the GOP base that prostrates itself at his feet, but to the fact that they are being hypnotized by shadowy Dem conspirators whose ruthless brilliance is too much for the simple cornfed goodness of down home Republicans and their ordinary homespun values.

Mind you, these are the same people who also insist they are way smarter than stupid liberals and know how to navigate in the Real World of raw politics and can Get Things Done while liberals get bogged down in PC sensitivities. Not to mention the people who have, for years, derided Obama as too stupid and incompetent to breathe, as well as a diabolical mastermind who is systematically destroying America while they alone can save her.

The Party of Personal Responsibility has a narrative explaining why it’s not their fault for every occasion. When (please God) Trump finally implodes, the GOPer’s who are currently squeeing like schoolgirls over his drop dead visceral authenticity that spits on tortured POWs and makes fun of paralytics will have a ready explanation for why it is everybody’s fault but theirs.

But the question, for Catholics, will remain the same: what in hell does support for *this* guy have to do with the five non-negotiables and how can any Catholic take seriously a party which has so clearly revealed its naked contempt for Catholic teaching. That doesn’t mean “Become a Democrat”. It means “Become a Catholic, even if you already happen to be one.  Stop hankering to have a place at the table of worldly power. It profits a man nothing to gain the whole world and lose his soul.”  Let those who are splitting their brains in order to adore such junk while trying to blame their actions on somebody else become whole again, made one in Christ:

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all men generously and without reproaching, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways, will receive anything from the Lord. (Jas 1:5–8).
