Cheerful Signs of the Times

Cheerful Signs of the Times September 26, 2015

When the devil gets furious, he knows his time is short, according to the book of Revelation. So when FOX comes unglued and starts screaming that the Pope is a “false prophet” I scent the stink of fear in the powers and principalities behind Movement Conservatism, and that makes me want to whistle a happy tune, because it means Francis visit has achieved a great deal by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The powers and principalities behind Movement Conservatism have really made super clear the intense malice they have for Peter and the full-orbed teaching of the Church this week. My prayer is that faithful Catholics will not be snookered by the false magisterium of FOX and Co. and will remain with the Church.

And I think the pope’s beautiful witness to Jesus Christ and the splendor of the Catholic tradition will not only help us do that, it will win (indeed, is winning) hearts and minds from many non-Catholics. Now it will be *our* job to be credible witnesses as well. We can do that with the help of the Spirit as he has. But it will mean learning to think with the Church first and not with the *true* false prophets of the unholy trinity of Mammon, Mars, and Venus that drive Americans like a herd of slaves.

Here are our marching orders as the Church:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,

because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Lk 4:18–19).

There is nothing to stop us because Jesus is our captain and is doing all the heavy lifting.

It’s a great time to be alive!

I know this guy claims to be a “devout Catholic” but shouldn’t a “devout Catholic” actually read and research what he is complaining about? Is he unaware that in the US almost all priests could already forgive the sin of abortion?

    • CrustyNatsFan

Yes. If there is one phrase that lost meaning this week, it was “devout Catholic.” Someone else pointed out that when used in American media it sometimes can be used as a synonym for the term “dissident” or “heretic.”

      • Dan13

It is just the go-to adjective to describe a Catholic who still self-identifies as a believer, as opposed to “lapsed Catholic.” “Practicing” is the other adjective often used. In the context the media uses, “devout” doesn’t mean much.

the best commentary I’ve seen is straight from the horse’s mouth so to speak in the daily Press Briefings you can view on the USCCB’s Papal Visit video streaming page NY’s auxiliary bishop O’Hara impassioned response to an Argentinian’s query posed on whether the Church ‘had a teaching on ego’ (? odd but I put it down to language differences) was magisterial in the true meaning of the word, he put God’s divine grace front and center, which too many lay-pontificators don’t care to do, shame on them.

Raymond Arroyo the other day on EWTN radio was telling his audience that killing prisoners can be a “merciful” act and is not intrinsically evil and therefore legitimate. The other guy with him, probably a priest, was telling people basically it’s ok to disagree with what Pope Francis just said to congress about ending capital punishment and mentioned Cardinal Dulles and how he was pro-death penalty.

I found it disturbing that a prominent and influential catholic radio host on a catholic radio station would ever associate the words “merciful” with killing, because this is the same logic used to defend euthanasia and abortion, not to mention completely ridiculous on face value and would certainly keep me away from Catholicism if i wasn’t already.

the heresy of Americanism is alive and well in today’s church.

He’s echoing an old argument, used as recently as the mid-20th century, that executing a prisoner could lead him to want to convert before the moment of truth.

imagine how kooky that sounds to a non-believer: anti-abortion catholics justify killing people because they believe it might help them to repent.

as i understand it, we can only kill as a last means of defense and never out of anger or punishment, or some mistaken notion of mercy.

EWTN’s coverage has been embarrassing. At every event Arroyo and his guests find a way to dismiss what the Holy Father is saying and the events themselves.

I thought you might enjoy this but it’s a presentation of very remarkable proof for intelligent design, disproving evolution’s origin of life claims quite devastatingly:
