One Practical Way to Heed the Pope’s Call to be *More* Prolife September 29, 2015

…is to ask the state of Georgia to spare the life of Kelly Gissendaner.  Time is of the essence since she is slated for execution today:

The most important thing you can do is call the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles RIGHT NOW and tell them to show mercy. Here’s the number: (404) 656-4661 (press “0” then “4”).

Then, email them by clicking here, post a message to their Facebook here, and click here to send a Tweet.

We’ve made tremendous headway — wonderful press telling Kelly’s story of redemption, ads in major local papers, more petition signatures, direct action, and people speaking up on social media [1]. But we need our Groundswell community to join in for this final push.

Today, members of the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles are watching videos from the Struggle Sisters, women who were in prison with Kelly and who were transformed by her words. They’re considering the testimony of Kelly’s three children who are pleading for her life. And they are weighing whether or not Kelly’s sentence was proportional, since the person who committed the murder will be eligible for parole in 8 years [2].

While they are deliberating, they need to hear from you! Call the board now at (404) 656-4661 (press “0” then “4”).

We have no idea when we will hear from the board, but when we do, we’ll update you one more time to let you know what is next. Time is running out. Please act in whatever way you can TODAY to help save Kelly’s life TODAY.

In solidarity,

The Reverend Kimberly S. Jackson, Letitia M. Campbell, and Rev. Dr. Melissa Browning

Tweeted 2x, prayed and sent a FB message. Phone is busy at the moment. Quite a struggle for me personally, but I’m taking a leap of faith.

How do you post links on your comments?

Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles has denied clemency. 🙁

Wow. Just going to pray. For all involved.

Ugh. Just sent an e-mail. I didn’t realize it was already denied.

Richard Glossip and Alfredo Prieto are also scheduled for execution this week, pending appeals to SCOTUS. Glossip’s case is especially troubling; OK’s Court of Criminal Appeals ruling was divided, 3-2. Much prayer is needed.

Praying for all involved. I am very sad about this.

She has been executed. May today she look upon the face of her Redeemer, and live.

Pray for her children whose pleas for clemency were ignored. They have forgiven their mother and now they are deprived of both parents.
