Incredibly, the Prolife Movement’s strategy of ardently embracing the Noble Lie… December 18, 2015

has somehow inexplicably led to the charge that the Prolife Movement lies. Who could possibly have foreseen this?

"Is "aarde" related to the "aard" in "aardvark"?"

Yeah. I wish people in the pro-life movement could be as perfect as opponents of the pro-life movement seem to demand. Then I’m sure everyone would wake up, oppose abortion, and stop promoting sex and drugs in an age of 30 million AIDS victims. Fact is though, I doubt it. Sure, I wish they would not do these things, and I’m willing to say it. However, I’m not going to be a cheerleader for all the attacks leveled against the people trying to do the right thing. There comes a time when bringing just criticisms against others fighting for the cause ceases to be beneficial, and becomes a gift that keeps giving to the forces of Hell.

There is always a trick to critiquing fellow believers and allies in worthy causes. Best to follow the approach that we might with someone like Colbert or Stewart. Sure they advocate sins that cry out to heaven for vengeance, but here is where they are right and where I will be unwavering in my support. Same can be done for the pro-life movement.

Supporting someone and doing need criticism of problems they need to fix a not mutually exclusive things.

      • Dave G

You’d think. And yet how easy it is to end up doing little else.

  • Igotfreshmilk

Mark, I think you are being a little unfair. They also accuse us of lying when we say that a baby is a baby even before it is born, when we say that a mother is a mother, and so on. This is not defending the Noble Lie, just to say that if the pro-abortionists accuse us of something we really can’t be too moved by that.

Could there be a difference between: i) Pro-choicers calling us liars and they being wrong and ii) Pro-choicers calling us liars and they being right?

Maybe the only difference rests not on a practical level but on one’s soul. But it is still a great difference, if you ask me.

      • Igotfreshmilk

Yes there is a difference, and who knows what the long term consequences are, for the soul of the liar, and for any souls who might be lied to. I just mean that being accused of lying by habitual murderers does not figure into the conversation about the rightness or wrongness of the lie. Truly, these people can’t tell truth at all. They can’t tell it in the sense of discerning it when it is in front of them, nor in the sense of speaking it. As the old saying is, a busted clock is right twice a day, but you don’t say “Oh, I must be late, look at the clock.”

Since when have we cared what “Media Matters for America” says about the pro-life movement? When their mission statement is “comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media” I can’t help but notice a bias on their part.

    • MT

It matters because lying is a perversion of the end of speech, and destroys credibility. The very first step in evangelizing is establishing trust with the other person, which is ruined with lies.

      • UAWildcatx2

“The very first step in evangelizing is establishing trust with the other person” MMA doesn’t believe us, and never will. Igotfreshmilk has a very valid point: Media Matters has called us liars for a *long* time now. I’m not terribly worried that their editorial continues this fact.

        • MT

No one is past the point of conversion until death. If they don’t take the helping hand, that’s their problem, but still must try, and keep trying.

    • chezami

Yes. Remain in the Bubble at all costs and only listen to those who tell you what you already want to hear. Never ever consider how your foolish actions sound and look to those outside your bubble. That is very very smart and will never lead to disaster or anything.

      • Lorraine

I agree if you are talking about the author of this untruthful article. He calls non-violent pro-lifers extremists. He has bought Pp’s lies and should not be claiming to be Catholic.

      • Sue Korlan

According to Life News reports, they hired an organization which normally testifies in courts on whether or not videos and tapes have been surreptitiously edited and that organization testifies that they’re legit. I trust Steve Ertelt so I take that as given. The tapes weren’t faked. Of course if other pro-life organizations were honest in their methods instead of violating Catholic teaching that the ends don’t justify the means, we wouldn’t be having this discussion in the first place.

    • wineinthewater

We care because the message that they put out convinces a lot of people. The pro-choice movement already uses “pro-lifers are liars” rhetoric as a fundrasing tool and as a way to undercut the credibility of the pro-life message about the reality of abortion.

  • Lorraine

You Mr. Zmirack are the one who is lying. You are going right along with Pp’s and their media is saying which are lies. If you believe that killing babies in the womb and selling their organs and limbs is ok you really are not a Catholic and have no right to naming your blog Catholic. You are not Catholic.I will pray for you to. see how you are not in line with the truth.

    • chezami

My name is not Zmirak. He’s the apologist for lying (one of them).

I don’t believe killing babies and selling off their parts is okay. That’s a lie. You should stop lying.

Nothing they or anyone else says can change the fact that the claim that those videos were “deceptively edited” is the real lie. The truth is still, as always, on the pro-life side. The tactics used by the “Center for Medical Progress”, even if you disagree with those tactics for good reasons, has not fundamentally changed that fact.
