Rebecca Bratten Weiss has her head screwed on straight. The Christian witness to non-violence is deeply counter-cultural in the US. Our default approach to violence is never to ask “How do avoid violence as far as humanly possible?” but is instead, virtually always, “When do we *get* to use violence?”

I think the Church in the US is *far* too addicted to violence as the first rather than last resort and could do with a lot more examination of the Church’s tradition of non-violent resistance to evil.
