Because it’s screwing them over.
It’s a human tradition, not sacred tradition. When it stops working, you fix or replace it. And the more it screws more people over, the less likely those people are to listen to those at the top of the food chain telling them “Ooga booga. Be afraid!” when they keep noticing the 1% are only ones benefiting from Trickle Down economics.
A reading of What’s Wrong with the World might be tonic. And a memorization of Lyndon Johnson’s prophetic description of Donald Trump’s entire strategy for exploiting a population of increasingly screwed over whites: “I’ll tell you what’s at the bottom of it. If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”
