Friends are urging each other to go to their website and sign up, while others are lamenting, “I did and I never heard back from them” and recounting stories of website glitches and stuff.
Nothing says “authentically Catholic” like an organization cocooned in administrative chaos and struggling with coding errors. Just look at the Vatican website. Or the Vatican. This is why dark conspiracy theories about an all-controlling Roman octopus of gleaming efficiency with a global reach just give me the giggles. The Church can’t organize its way out of a paper bag. Hilaire Belloc was simply right when he said the Church was, “an institute run with such knavish imbecility that if it were not the work of God it would not last a fortnight.”
Never forget John 23’s reply to the question “How many people work at the Vatican?”:
“About half.”
Catholics have always had a warm, easy-going Mediterranean approach to the Calvinist work ethic.
As I have always said, I don’t believe in organized religion. I’m a Catholic.
